Be An Election Day Hero: Get Out The Vote On November 4, 2008

 

As the November 4, 2008 General Election approaches, SBACC invites you to join Secretary of State Debra Bowen in spreading the word about voting by letting your employees and customers know how easy it is to take part in elections.

 

While 58 percent of registered voters cast a ballot in the February 5 Presidential Primary Election, this was only 40 percent of the people who were eligible to vote. Since many people spend significant amounts of time at work, you and other employers have a unique opportunity to make a difference on voter participation.

 

Here are some simple, nonpartisan ways you can provide your employees and customers with the basic tools and information they need to take part in elections:

Paycheck or Billing Invoice Insert

 

Place a brief message on paychecks or invoices or insert a flyer into paycheck or invoice envelopes.
Here is a sample short message for employee paychecks or customer bills:

Do you want to sign up to vote by mail?
Call the Secretary of State at 1-800-345-VOTE or go to www.sos.ca.gov

Help Staff a Polling Place On Election Day

 

Email a short message about staffing a polling place on election day. Here is an example:
 

Employees who work at the polls on Election Day perform a vital community service. Consider “adopting” a polling place, where two or three employees can work as a team.

The last day to register to vote for the June 3 Statewide Direct Primary Election is May 19.
